Ukrainian gastarbeiters in Rostov

It’s not a secret today for authority, diplomats and law enforcement agencies that Ukrainian gastarbeiters disappear in Russia. They actually become hostages who may hit the bricks.
Thousands of Ukrainians are already in Russian prisons. The Federal Security Service (FSB) officers recruit people throwing drugs at the border and then make condition: either go “to beat the hohly (Ukraınıans)” ın Donbass, or do remedial works.
Recently mass media spread information about a man form Amvrosiivka (Donetsk region) who has been working for 6 monthes in construction of “Rostov-Arena” - huge sports stadium which seats 45,000 for the World Football Championship which will be hold in Russia in 2018. The name of this worker is Oleksandr P. and he flatly refused to take pictures because he was afraid of his life and the life of the family. However despite the anonymity I’d like just to tell you his story of earning money in Russia.
Oleksandr didn’t have a job in Amvrosiivka and in January he went to Russia. In July he returned because he didn’t received promised salary (35 thousand rubles – approximately 610 USD), in fact they paid twice less. It’s necessary to underline that Russians pay salary just after scandals and disturbances.
Everyone has to understand that gastarbeiters are involved just in subsidiary work. Ukrainian migrant workers work from 7 a.m. till the night. They find such work in Internet, go to Rostov (or other city of Russia), sign documents, agreements and are  carried to different cities or villages. Ukrainian gastarbeiters are treated as slaves, as low-cost labours.
Oleksandr also talked about problems in building of “Rostov-Arena”. It’s really true that after heavy downpours there are wet ceiling and puddles on the floor in checkrooms and other rooms . He supposed that a lot of construction materials are stolen.
In addition Oleksandr confirmed that there are really violations of safety rules in building of Russian objects, and of course there are dozens of victims and even deaths.
Oleksandr was succeeded in running away to Ukraine. But everyone has to apprehend that if you are going to earn cheap money in Russia, you and your family have to be ready that you may return home without money or spend the majority of your life in a Russian prison. If it’s ok for you, welcome to Russia! And don’t forget that there’s no such thing as a free lunch!
